 F. Lisa Murtha, JD, CHC
Lisa Murtha is a member of Sonnenschein’s Health Care Group. Ms. Murtha has over 22 years of experience working on complex clinical
research and healthcare compliance issues. She focuses her practice in clinical research compliance which includes human subject protections, effort reporting, scientific misconduct, conflicts of interest, and clinical trial billing and process improvement. Ms. Murtha also provides guidance regarding revenue cycle work, billing and coding issues, internal investigations, corporate governance/ethics, and HIPAA related matters.
Representative examples of Lisa’s engagement experience include:
- Leading project teams responsible for redesigning and
implementing new clinical research billing processes at several
large academic medical centers around the United States.
- Serving as the engagement lead on numerous compliance
program assessments at large healthcare organizations.
- Serving as an expert witness on several research and healthcare
compliance cases.
Ms. Murtha previously served as Managing Director in the New York office
of Huron Consulting Group. She previously served as the Vice President
of Audit, Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer for The Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia (CHOP), the Stokes Research Institute, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Practice Association. Ms. Murtha previously served as a Managing Director for KPMG LLP’s New York based health care fraud and compliance practice and as a Senior Manager for Deloitte and Touche’s compliance practice where she assisted her clients with the development and implementation of comprehensive corporate compliance programs, clinical research compliance programs, complex reimbursement and other internal investigations and in supervising Independent Review Organization projects for clients under Corporate Integrity Agreements with the government.
Prior to her consulting career, Ms. Murtha worked as the Chief Compliance Officer for the University of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania Health System, and prior to that as the Corporate Compliance Director for Pennsylvania Blue Shield (focusing primarily on Medicare Carrier Contract Compliance). Ms. Murtha is a former Board member of the International Association of Privacy Officers, and is also a Founding Board Member and former officer of the Health Care Compliance Association.
